Days Between Dates

Pick a start and end date to see exactly how much time separates them, broken down every way you need.

About this calculator

This days between dates measures the real, calendar-accurate distance between two dates. Enter a start date and an end date — order doesn't matter, the calculator will sort them automatically — and get the gap expressed in years, months and days, plus running totals in weeks, hours and minutes.

It's useful for anything from contract terms and project timelines to countdowns and personal milestones, wherever you need an exact duration rather than a rough guess.

How it works

  1. Enter the first date

Pick the earlier reference point — a start date, an event, or any date you're measuring from.

  2. Enter the second date

Pick the date you're measuring to. It defaults to today but can be any date, past or future.

  3. View the exact duration

See the difference broken into years, months and days, with totals in days, weeks, hours and minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Does it matter which date I enter first?

No — if the end date is earlier than the start date, the calculator automatically reorders them and tells you it did so.

Can I use this for future dates?

Yes, both fields accept any date, so you can calculate a countdown to a future event just as easily as a gap between two past dates.

Why do the years/months/days not match a simple division of total days?

Calendar months vary in length, so the year/month/day breakdown walks real calendar dates rather than assuming a fixed 30-day month — that's what makes it exact.

Is this the same as an age calculator?

It uses the same underlying math. An age calculator is really a date-difference calculation where one date is a birth date and the other is today.
